Resize your gridscale Storage on-the-fly on Windows Server 2016
Make storage available on Windows Server
This article has already shown how to make the storage available under Linux after the storage-on-the-fly has been increased via the gridscale GUI. How storage can be increased on-the-fly (combined with other useful features of gridscale) has been demonstrated in this article. Here is how to make the storage available after the increase in Windows servers.
Fast, easy procedure
Select Start, Windows Administrative Tools, then Computer Management. The left-hand menu shows Disk Management under Storage. Click here. Alternatively, from Windows Server 2016, right-click on the start button and then click directly on Disk Management.
Now the following window should appear:
Now you can switch to the gridscale GUI to increase the server’s storage. Then the following appears:
If, contrary to expectations, nothing has changed, you can re-import all data carriers by clicking on Action and then on Rescan Disk.
Now right-click on the partition you want to extend (in this case, this is C:), then select Extend Volume:
In the now appearing wizard can be determined how big the storage should be after the enlargements. If the default value is selected, it will always be extended to 100%. Now you can click Next and then Finish.
Now the partition table should look like this:
Now the storage is extended. All applications should now automatically recognize the additional storage. So no further actions are necessary.
Summary
Gridscale’s Hotadd Storage feature makes it easy to increase storage during operation. Even easier CPUs and RAM can be added. How it works is shown here: How to gridscale
