Install Plesk on Ubuntu with Plesk Autoinstaller
In the last article I introduced some server management tools (German Only) (Plesk, Froxlor, EHCP). Today I show you how to install Plesk on an Ubuntu 16.04 server with the Plesk Autoinstaller.
Preparing the server
I am assuming that your server is freshly created. If you have created a server at gridscale, it’s already up to date. If your vendor handles updates differently, update your server with the following command:
$sudo apt-get -y update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade
Installing Plesk with the Plesk Autoinstaller
Plesk offers an autoinstaller that takes care of all our work. Simply use the following command:
$sh <(curl https://autoinstall.plesk.com/one-click-installer || wget -O - https://autoinstall.plesk.com/one-click-installer)
If everything has worked, you should see something like this:
Congratulations! The installation has been finished. Plesk is now running on your server. To complete the configuration process, browse either of URLs: * https://IP:8443/login?secret=UOewbI0hT2vNUdiktwlJ6FpwryfmaaaaaDgx2hTQ%3D * https://meine-domain.tld:8443/login?secret=UOewbI0hT2vNUdiktwlJ6FpwryfmaaaaaDgx2hTQ%3D Use the username 'admin' to log in. To log in as 'admin', use the 'plesk login' command. You can also log in as 'root' using your 'root' password. Use the 'plesk' command to manage the server. Run 'plesk help' for more info. Use the following commands to start and stop the Plesk web interface: 'service psa start' and 'service psa stop' respectively. If you would like to migrate your subscriptions from other hosting panels or older Plesk version to this server, please check out our assistance options: https://www.plesk.com/professional-services/
Then you call up one of the two addresses that the client displays to you. Just copy the appropriate address.
Setting up Plesk
During configuration in the browser, you are asked to choose a “View Selector” in the first step. Choose the one that suits you best. If you are asked for a login, you can login here with “root” and your root password.
The next step is to ask for a “hostname”. You can enter a top-level domain that points to your server via A-Record.
Under “Default IP address” you can choose which IP address should be preferred.
In the last step you define your admin password and click “OK”.
In the next step of the installation, you are asked to provide your personal data for registration. Then please accept the terms and conditions and click on “OK” again.
In the penultimate step, you are asked to deposit your license.
Lastly, you set access data for FTP access and confirm with “OK”.
After a short charging time, PLESK should now be ready.
