Cologne, May 28, 2020 - The Cologne-based cloud technology company gridscale is moving into additional office space at the Cologne Kontrastwerk. Since April of this year, the new rental space of 940 m² increases the previous space to a total of 1,316 m².
The reason for the expansion of the facilities is the strong growth in the number of employees of around 100% annually. Thanks to the location-independent working methods and a team composition with employees from currently 11 different countries, project work and everyday business life at gridscale are structured in a "remote-friendly" way.
Since 2017 the gridscale headquarter is located in Kontrastwerk, a modern commercial area in the Cologne district Ehrenfeld. The number of employees has increased almost tenfold since then. Only about 40 percent of the employees are in Cologne regularly, most of the specialists are spread across different locations and co-working spaces throughout Europe. The company's data centers are located in a high-security location in Frankfurt am Main.
Modern open-space areas in a loft-like industrial design
"Two and a half years ago, we started with a dozen employees, and since then our team has grown to more than a hundred people. Roughly calculated, we double our team size every year - just like our space", emphasizes Henrik Hasenkamp, co-founder and CEO of gridscale. "We are glad that we can continue to grow within the Kontrastwerk and that we get the modern open-space areas here that fit our way of working".
The new premises in a light-flooded extension present themselves in a loft-like industrial design and offer all employees sufficient space and a comfortable working environment on more than 1,300 sqm. In addition to an attractive architecture with an open gallery and spacious reception area, the renovation work focused on additional office and meeting rooms as well as special telephone booths and meeting boxes.
A modern kitchen and large sun terrace also offer plenty of space for communication and alternative retreats. The parking spaces directly in front of and behind the building are completed by several electric charging stations.
Remote-friendly approach for cross-site collaboration
Despite the expansion of office space, gridscale will remain true to its "remote-friendly" approach in the future. By means of workflow design and modern communication tools it does not really play a role from where the employees are working, but rather the flow of information, cooperation and corporate culture are aimed at the fact that not all employees necessarily have to be present at one location. An approach with which gridscale not only copes with incidents such as the Corona crisis, but which also goes well with the internationalization efforts of the company.
From Cologne into the world
"Our potential market is large and by no means limited to Germany. In the coming years, we therefore want to further internationalise our business, consistently promote mobile working and attract more employees in Spain, Scandinavia and other European countries", adds Henrik Hasenkamp. "Of course, we also want to welcome our new colleagues to the Kontrastwerk on a regular basis, and we are already looking forward to also seeing what ideas they will bring to our location in terms of furnishings and equipment."
