GPU Compute
We are pleased to announce our partnership with the Bavarian GTU Data Processing. With the people from GTS, we can offer GPU Compute to our customers and partners. This means you can also run very compute-intensive workloads in the gridscale cloud, such as machine learning and data processing.
If you are interested, please get in touch with us. The offer is currently only available on request.
Product documentation
We have added examples of Object Storage commands to our recently published product documentation. The sections on the Marketplace, gridscale Kubernetes and Microsoft SQL Server PaaS have also been expanded.
This documentation now provides a central pool of information on all the options and functions of our products. We will continue to expand them in the future. Where possible and appropriate, we will link the documentation directly to the corresponding functions in our panel.
The next big step is a white-label version of the product documentation. It can be passed on to customers by resellers as part of their service.
GSK – Managed Kubernetes
You can now scale your nodes vertically in the Expert Panel. We have listed further information on scaling and our upgrade process in the product documentation.
As announced in the May issue of News From The Machine Room, we will discontinue the use of versions 1.16 to 1.18. Our timetable for the closures looks like this:
- 1.16 – July 26, 2021
- 1.17 – August 9, 2021
- 1.18 – August 23, 2021
Object Storage
There is now a Lifetime Policy in the revised Object Storage Interface. You can use it to precisely define the lift time for incomplete multi-part uploads. This helps you to manage any remaining incomplete uploads.
You can now name new Object Storage Access Keys using the corresponding name field. This way you can keep track of which keys are used where. Please note that existing keys cannot be renamed.
Status Page
We have adapted the subscription options on the status page to the actual product names in order to keep the naming consistent everywhere. We have also added our new location in Switzerland (ZHR1).
If you have subscribed to notifications, please check that they are up to date.
PaaS
We have updated the backup integration for Microsoft SQL Server Object Storage. You can now specify whether the backups are stored on the local PaaS disk and for how long. We have also improved the backup process for Microsoft SQL Server. This applies to copying backups, rotating from the local disk, reliability and a few other points.
You can find out more about backup in our product documentation.
Partner Panel and API
We have renamed the templates for setting prices to “Price lists“.
The use of the API may differ slightly for partners from the way the Partner Panel works. We have therefore added the option to display limit and feature flag UUIDs in the panel.
In the future, we plan to expand our partner API with more intelligent functions to make your workflows easier. For example, through automatic default detection when creating clients.
LBaaS
By changing the load balancer architecture, we have significantly improved the stability and performance of the load balancer.
We will soon be integrating BYOC (bring your own certificate) into our Managed Kubernetes. This is an important step towards making all load balancer functions available in GSK as well.
VNC console
We have added several new functions to the VNC console in the Easy and Expert panels. In addition to UI/UX improvements and improved keyboard recognition, we have introduced a new toolbar menu. There is also a server information area that displays helpful network details and a PasteBox that allows you to paste text directly into the server console.
Software ecosystem
We have updated our JS-based API client, gsclient-js, to v.1.1.7, including an updated API version and support for Object Storage Access Key comments.
The Terraform Provider from gridscale has also been updated to v1.11.0. The new functions include SSL certificates, Microsoft SQL Server, MariaDB, MySQL, Memcached and Redis Store/Cache resources. We have added more pre-validations and added the `backup_retention` field for Microsoft SQL Server backups and the host field for PaaS and PaaS-like resources. Also fixed an issue where Microsoft SQL Server backup parameters could not be updated.
