KETTLER GmbH operates its own distribution portal for its distributors. At the same time, KETTLER is opening up a new market to serve end customers directly with products in an online shop.
A hosting on dedicated hardware is already being used for the extranet and the website kettler.de. When planning for the new online shop, as well as the expected rush of visitors on kettler.de, quickly became clear: “In order to make the eCommerce solution highly available to our customers and flexibly scalable for us, substantial reconstruction and investment would have been necessary”, says Ralf Neuhaus, responsible for computer science at KETTLER. “Using an infrastructure-as-a-service provider was our preferred solution, on the one hand for cost reasons, and on the other hand because of the flexibility provided by the gridscale contracts.”
In addition to gridscale, other IT outsourcing providers had the opportunity to submit suggestions to KETTLER. “The procurement to gridscale was based on the partnership that was in place right from the start, as well as the innovative solution proposal.
We always had the feeling of being understood”, explains Catherine Otto, Head of IT & Organization. “Last but not least, the gridscale offer with the convincing price-performance ratio was also very attractive to us commercially.”
gridscale was also able to fully convince us in the planning and implementation. “gridscale has very quickly suggested a recommendation for the new system architecture. At a very high technical level, best practice approaches were discussed with us and implemented quickly.”
KETTLER decided on a setup consisting of load balancers, web servers, database servers and a PHP backend. “The gridscale IaaS platform is characterized by its own self-healing mechanisms,” adds Michael Balser, co-founder and CPO of gridscale GmbH. “We’ve been able to teach the cloud to heal itself with machine learning for possible errors or extraordinary anomalies.” With the Managed Service, KETTLER trusts the provider in all tasks in the area of security and patch management. As a virtual system administrator, gridscale supports the customer in full-stack – up to the upper limit of the operating systems. Thus, KETTLER can concentrate on its core tasks. With the monitoring service, gridscale is always able to give a clear statement about the status of the shop solution up to the level of customer applications and to adapt the platform to the external conditions.
